Primary reason is the prayer which Jesus taught us
Matthew 6: 9–15
‘ Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
10Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread,
12And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors;
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14For
if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also
forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither
will your Father forgive yours.
(The prayer has a conditional close, which Christians are aware of. Hence we refrain from taking vengeance)
Another key factor is ‘Sayings of Jesus on the cross’
Luke 23:34
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
(His last words were about forgiving )
The bible words like
Romans 12:19
17
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in
the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on
you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear
friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine
to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
1 Peter3:9
Do
not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary,
bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
