‘Something is better than nothing’
India hoped to emerge, after initiation of the ‘Make in India’ programme in 2015 as the top destination globally for FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT surpassing the United states of America as well as the People’s Republic of China. FDI is the new matra for development.
Logo of Make in India initiative, which aims to brand India as a manufacturing hub is designed by Weiden+Kennedy India Limited, a foreign company’s Indian arm, reveals a query under Right to Information Act. This perfectly sums up what ‘Make in India’ is.
While
‘ease of doing business’ is a desirable thing, in India’s case it is
being promoted at the expense of other more important national
objectives such as employment; survival and skill upgradation of
agricultural and small manufacturing economies and families dependent on
them; expanding on existing domestic capacities in those industries
where Indian firms have already demonstrated competence; and development
of domestic R&D and manufacturing capability in state-of-the-art
technology areas.
The ‘Startup India’
campaign based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for
start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start ups with
jobs creation will hopefully change the course. It eventually will lead to ‘Make by India’
