Simply put it is utilitarian mentality.
We
all are commodities our skills value more than our character. It is a
reality which we need to understand. In job we find the smart guys who
are skilled but lack moral codes climb the ladder. This is because we
are hired for a purpose and they are better than a person with strong
moral codes. The good guy bad guy concept is not at all considered.
Whether the person serve the purpose is the criteria.
Utilitarianism is a theory in normative ethics
holding that the proper course of action is the one that maximizes
utility, usually defined as maximizing total benefit and reducing
suffering or the negatives.
A person with both skill and character is the best pick in most job interviews.
